ITI PRAISES HOUSE-SENATE CONFERENCE
AGREEMENT ON AMERICA COMPETES ACT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Citing the
vital role of U.S. math and science education and research to spur innovation,
Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) President Rhett Dawson today
praised the bipartisan House-Senate Conference Report on the America COMPETES
Act. The agreement authorizes an expansion of vital science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM) research and education programs across the
federal government and provides a significant boost to research programs at
the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) and the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science.
“The House–Senate Conference agreement on the America COMPETES
Act is a great bipartisan effort to help drive the technological advancement
that has established America as the global leader in science and innovation,” Dawson
said. “We appreciate the leadership and commitment of House and
Senate leaders to increasing research investment and strengthening educational
opportunities in science and mathematics. In an increasingly competitive
global economy, America’s leadership in innovation and emerging technologies
is at stake. We are pleased that both parties recognized the urgency
of the global challenge to our competitive advantage and forged this consensus.”
