ITI PRAISES PASSAGE OF HOUSE ENERGY BILL
Legislation is “Innovation-Driven Solution to America’s Energy Challenges”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) President Rhett Dawson today hailed passage in the House of Representatives of HR 6, the “Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007.”
ITI has lobbied aggressively for the inclusion of several innovation-friendly legislative provisions throughout 2007 and recently sent a letter to House Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader Boehner urging passage. ITI may consider scoring votes related to passage of this legislation in its annual High Tech Voting Guide.
“ITI commends Congress for working in a bipartisan fashion with our industry to pursue innovation-friendly efficiency policies in this legislation,” Dawson said. “The high tech industry leads corporate America through its own commitments to responsible energy conservation programs. It is the ongoing innovation in our technologies and services that truly enable numerous energy savings throughout all sectors of the economy.”
“The authors of this energy legislation have crafted a number of well-balanced provisions that significantly impact and benefit the high tech sector, including a data center efficiency program; investments in smart grid technologies; power management software; appropriate energy labeling; and innovation-friendly power requirements.”
Dawson added, “This legislation enhances the high tech industry’s own efficiency achievements while preserving the dynamic, innovative, pro-growth environment of the high tech economy. We commend the leadership on both sides of the aisle for crafting and passing legislation that promotes and preserves America’s high tech innovation, a key solution for our nation’s energy challenges.”
