PERSONAL COMPUTER SHIPMENT REPORT
1st QUARTER
2007
~ Portable
Computer Shipments Rose 16.5%~
May 10, Washington, DC -- The United States Microcomputer
Statistics Committee (USMSC) released its first quarter PC shipment data
for the United States today.
Portable computer shipments increased
by 16.5% from 5.11 million units in 1Q 2006 to 5.96 million units in 1Q 2007. The
2-digit growth rate for portable computers, which has been sustained for
the last few years, is due to the strong demand for consumer portables.
PC server shipments increased by 4.4%
to 0.60 million units from 0.58 million units in 1Q 2006, whereas desktop
PCs continued to decline from 8.8 million units in 1Q 2006 to 7.9 million
units in 1Q 2007.
The three-month rolling average* for
total PC shipments amounted to 4.91 million units compared to 4.89 million
during the same period in 2006. USMSC's latest forecast, issued in
March 2007, calls for total US PC shipments to increase by 3.1% in 2007.
