PC Shipments Rose 15.7%~
June 5, Washington, DC -- The United States Microcomputer
Statistics Committee (USMSC) released its April, 2007 PC shipment
data report for the United States today.
Personal computer shipments amounted
to 5.9 million units in April, an increase of 15.7% from the 5.1
million units shipped in March.
On a year-over-year basis, portable
computer shipments increased by 14.0% from 2.0 million units in April
2006 to 2.3 million units in April 2007. Consumer
portables sales are still growing at
a faster pace than those marketed to businesses.
PC server shipments recorded the highest
gain in April. Shipments rose by 18.0% to 0.28 million units
from 0.24 million in April of last year. Desktop PCs continued to
decline from 3.5 million units in April 2006 to 3.4 million units
in April 2007.
The three-month rolling average* for
total PC shipments amounted to 5.20 million units in April compared
to 4.96 million during the same period in 2006. USMSC's latest
forecast, issued in March 2007, calls for total US PC shipments to
increase by 3.1% in 2007.

in 1990, the USMSC is comprised of PC vendors who ship personal computers
to the U.S. market. Participants in the committee report monthly
shipments by form factor (portable, servers and desktop units). USMSC's
activities are administered by the Information Technology Industry
Council (ITI). The committee's reporting members include Dell,
Gateway, HP, Intel, Lenovo and Toshiba. Other participants include
AMD, Canon, Epson, Microsoft and Seagate. For more information, contact
