The Senate Commerce Committee has scheduled an immigration-focused hearing next Wednesday that will examine the role that foreign workers play in the United States' tech industry.

The hearing will look at the country's current immigration laws and their impact on economic growth, according to a hearing notice from the committee. 

The hearing comes as the bipartisan Gang of Eight senators unveiled their highly anticipated immigration reform proposal earlier this month. Among the measures included in the sweeping bill, the legislation proposes to significantly increase the number of H-1B visas available to highly skilled and educated foreign workers.
