The rules would keep Internet Service Providers from blocking or slowing content that goes over the Internet. Public Knowledge was disappointed with the decision saying that stronger protections were needed. ITI, which represents companies such as Ebay, Apple and Google, praised the rules saying they provide regulatory certainty for their members.

The Federal Communications Commission sent the plan to Congress today, ahead of the schedule set by lawmakers. It calls for "the fastest and most extensive wireless networks" of any nation by 2020, to ensure wider service and spur competition with cable and telephone companies.
