WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice for the technology sector's leading companies, issued the following statement from Vice President for Government Affairs Vince Jesaitis on the release of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report on the Internet of Things:

“We appreciate the FTC’s report and contribution to the education of American consumers and policymakers regarding this emerging field of innovation. Just as the Internet did, the Internet of Things is changing our world by connecting everyday items in ways that transform and improve our lives. Privacy and security are fundamental to developing these new innovations and our member companies expend a great deal of effort to address these two issues from the outset in developing their Internet of Things products and services.

“As policymakers consider how to enable a thriving ecosystem for these technologies, they should also keep in mind issues like connectivity, interoperability, and global market-driven voluntary standards that will be essential building blocks to fully realize the full range of benefits and efficiencies the Internet of Things can deliver to consumers, businesses, and our economy.”
