WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement today from President and CEO Dean Garfield welcoming an announcement by the U.S. Department of Commerce on the creation of a new Digital Economy Board of Advisors:

“Technology is a fundamental component to every industry powering our economy," Garfield said. "The importance of digital goods and services is reflected by the Commerce Department creating new mechanisms like this advisory board to tap into the expertise they need to guide the policies and resources for a stronger, more innovative economy. We commend Secretary Pritzker and the Commerce Department for their forward thinking approach that can help the United States take advantage of the opportunities being created in the digital economy."

Garfield noted to the diverse range of tech industry and government policy veterans asked to serve on the panel. The advisory board appointments announced today comprise the group first announced in November that will provide outside input for the Department’s Digital Economy Agenda. The Commerce Department said appointees will serve two-year terms on the board, and their focus will be promoting innovation, a free and open Internet, trust online, and Internet access for all Americans.
