WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Alliance for Public Sector (ITAPS), a division of ITI, released substantive comments it has submitted, along with the Coalition for Government Procurement, to the General Services Administration (GSA) with recommendations to improve how the U.S. federal government can procure cloud computing services.  The joint comments were developed in response to a government request for industry feedback on the possible need for, and potential structure of, a new governmentwide contracting vehicle for agencies to purchase cloud computing services in a more efficient and effective manner.

"Cloud technologies offer the government an opportunity to modernize constituent-facing programs, consolidate data centers, and realize cost savings for the taxpayers," said Trey Hodgkins, ITAPS Senior Vice President for the Public Sector. "We’re encouraged by GSA's outreach and we are committed to partnering with them as the agency explores creating a possible new contract to better bring the benefits of cloud computing technology to federal agencies."

ITAPS has been actively engaging to represent the collective voice of the information technology solutions industry to GSA when it reaches out through requests for information (RFI) as GSA has continued to mature the discussion about cloud procurement. Last fall, ITAPS responded to the GSA’s RFI on the creation of an IT Schedule 70 Special Item Number (SIN) in addition to responding earlier this year to the GSA’s RFI regarding the SIN's terms and conditions.
