On behalf of the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) and its member companies, we applaud U.S. Representatives Guthrie, Matsui, Waxman, Walden, and Eshoo for their work to make additional federally-held spectrum available for commercial mobile broadband.

The federal government is the largest single holder of spectrum.  If we are to meet our nation's growing demand for mobile broadband, policies that require smarter, more efficient use by the federal government are needed to enable some of the spectrum it currently uses to be transitioned to the commercial marketplace.

The Federal Spectrum Incentive Auction Act of 2013 is an important step in that direction, and an innovative approach by the bill's sponsors to help address our nation's spectrum needs.

We applaud the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s action on this legislation today and look forward to working with the bill's sponsors and the key committees in both the House and Senate to see legislation enacted in the near future.
