WASHINGTON – Today, ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement from senior vice president of government affairs Andy Halataei in support of the Internet of Things Consumer Tips to Improve Personal Security (TIPS) Act of 2017 introduced by Sens. Wicker (R-Miss.) and Hassan (D-N.H.):

“The TIPS Act does an excellent job building on the recommendations we made in our National Internet of Things (IoT) Strategy document by empowering consumers to better protect themselves from cyberattacks. The growth of IoT connected devices will usher in a new era of innovation with boundless economic and societal benefits. To fully realize those benefits, spurring consumer-based cybersecurity hygiene education and awareness outreach initiatives will help maximize the innovative, safety, and economic benefits of IoT connected devices. We applaud Senators Wicker and Hassan for their leadership and we look forward to working with them and their colleagues in Congress on this issue.”

ITI with other leading tech groups released the first-of-its-kind National Internet of Things (IoT) Strategy this fall. These recommendations will assist Congress and the administration in proactively developing public policies that will allow the United States to fully realize the vast economic and societal benefits of the IoT.
