WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), representing the world’s leading technology companies as the global voice for the tech sector, issued the following statement from President and CEO Dean Garfield commending the Obama Administration’s initiative announced by Vice President Joe Biden that will provide $25 million in grant funding to historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) to help students pursue a career in cybersecurity:

“The tech industry is working to encourage students, particularly women and people of color, to pursue STEM fields so more Americans can seize upon these good paying jobs – including in the cybersecurity field.  We are excited about the administration’s efforts to promote new avenues for HBCU students to pursue these opportunities and bring their talents to safeguarding our online world.”
