WASHINGTON, D.C.  (February 21, 2012) – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) today named Robert Hoffman as senior vice president of government relations.

Hoffman will join ITI from Cognizant Technology Solutions, where he has spent two and a half years as Vice President of Global Public Policy.  Hoffman opened Cognizant’s first public policy operation and has managed the development and implementation of that company’s public policy agenda.  He comes to ITI with more than 20 years experience in public policy, with 10 of those years spent as an advocate for the high-tech industry.

ITI’s president and CEO Dean Garfield stated, “Robert is a proven champion for the technology sector.  He understands the challenges ahead and the opportunities for bipartisan cooperation to drive technology innovation and job creation.  His vast experience in the public and private sectors will prove invaluable to ITI and our member companies.  We are very fortunate to have Robert join our team.”

As ITI’s senior vice president of government relations, Hoffman will lead ITI’s lobbying and federal advocacy efforts.  Hoffman will serve as the high-tech industry's liaison to Congress and the Administration on critical issues to ensure the industry's top policy goals and objectives are accomplished.  Prior to his work at Cognizant, Hoffman worked with Oracle Corporation for eight years, managing its U.S. government relations team.  Concurrently, he acted as vice-chair and spokesperson for Compete America, a coalition that advocates for high skilled immigration reform.  Hoffman also served as chair of the ITI board of directors while at Oracle.

"For more than ten years, I have been fortunate to represent two extremely innovative tech companies.  While at Oracle and Cognizant, I had a front row seat to witness ITI's establishment as the industry's leading voice in Washington,” Hoffman said.  “Now, at ITI, I look forward to representing the world's leading tech companies as part of the industry's most effective association and voice in Washington."

Prior to his work with Cognizant and Oracle, Hoffman spent more than 13 years as a policy advisor and speechwriter for four United States Senators and the Governor of California.  Robert’s tenure in the U.S. Senate included service as Legislative Director and National Security Advisor for U.S. Senators Larry Pressler (R-SD) and Mike DeWine (R-OH).

Hoffman will begin work at ITI in the coming weeks.
