WASHINGTON, D.C. The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) today announced its newest member, Visa Inc. (NYSE: V), a global payments technology company that uses information and communications technology (ICT) to enable innovative products and services.

“We are thrilled to welcome Visa to our membership and advocate on behalf of their policy priorities,” said ITI President and CEO Dean Garfield. “As one of our new, ‘ICT Enabled’ companies, Visa is at the cutting edge of providing some of the most innovative payment products and services for consumers across the globe.”

“Visa is committed to promoting policies that encourage innovation to bring secure payment technology to consumers and businesses around the world,” said Bobby Thomson, head of U.S. government affairs, Visa Inc. “As a highly respected advocacy group, ITI will be a valuable partner as we continue to work with policymakers to develop solutions to promote cybersecurity and other issues.”

ITI advocates on behalf of its members for global policies that advance industry leadership in technology and innovation; open access to new and emerging markets; promote e-commerce expansion; drive sustainability and efficiency; protect consumer choice; and enhance the worldwide competitiveness of its member companies.

The ITI Board voted this year to expand the organization’s defined membership criteria to include companies at the forefront of researching, developing, and substantially integrating the use of ICT to enable innovative products and services. Visa is just the second company to announce that it is joining ITI following the expansion of the membership criteria, and the first payments network to join ITI.

The addition of Visa brings ITI’s membership to 58 companies.
