After a strong bipartisan vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to approve the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), ITI President & CEO Dean Garfield hoped the action would lead to similar progress in the Senate.  ITI worked closely with the Republican and Democratic cosponsors of the bill to ensure that it established effective policy to protect national security and safeguard personal information.

“This legislation meets the very challenging but achievable balance of protecting national security and personal privacy.  The bipartisan efforts in the House would lead to a more innovative, more effective shield against cyber threats while safeguarding personal data from government monitors.

“Cyber dangers grow every second of every day, threatening networks and critical infrastructure.  The bipartisan Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) would give security experts in businesses and government the tools they need to identify the threats, counter them, and stop them from spreading – all while adhering to strict safeguards for personal information and privacy.  The result:  Cyber criminals lose, and America wins.  Our critical infrastructure is more secure.   Our citizens are better protected.  And our privacy is shielded.

“With CISPA’s strong bipartisan approval by the House of Representatives, we hope that the Senate soon can move forward on similar bipartisan cyber legislation, keeping the momentum moving toward getting a new law enacted this year.  Each day we wait is another day when cyber criminals have an advantage.”
