WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), representing the world’s leading technology companies as the global voice for the tech sector, issued the following statement from Vice President Vince Jesaitis on President Barack Obama’s initiatives announced today to expand broadband access:

“Today high-speed Internet access is as critical an avenue for success as our interstate highways were in the last century.  We welcome President Obama bringing fresh attention to the subject of broadband expansion, especially in underserved areas.  While views may differ on how to boost connectivity, one thing is clear: a digital divide that leaves Americans behind undermines our ability to be the world’s leading economic force in the digital age.”
