WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice for the tech sector, representing 60 of the world’s leading technology companies, issued the following statement from President and CEO Dean Garfield today on the president’s immigration action announcement and renewed calls for Congress to fix the broken U.S. immigration system:

“While we appreciate the president’s efforts to address the problems in our employment based system, and look forward to further details, it is disappointing that neither he nor Congress have been able to seize the opportunity to accelerate economic growth by fixing our broken immigration system.

Immigration policy is really innovation policy, and nowhere is that made more real than in Silicon Valley where half of the startups are founded by immigrant entrepreneurs.  Congress should work together to pass bipartisan reforms because every day that goes by without fixing the dysfunction in our immigration system is another day new industries that create new jobs start overseas instead of here in America.”
