Washington, D.C. (December 12, 2011) – Rick Goss, Vice President for Environment and Sustainability at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), issued the following statement on the appointment of Ambassador Barrie Walkley as Special Advisor for the Great Lakes and the Democratic Republic of the Congo:

"ITI and our members would like to congratulate Ambassador Barrie Walkley on his appointment as Special Advisor for the Great Lakes and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ambassador Walkley has served American diplomatic interests with distinction throughout his career, and his appointment to the role of Special Advisor is a strong and positive step for the region. In a December 2010 letter to the Obama Administration, ITI specifically asked that the President appoint an official to coordinate overall policy in regards to the Congo region.  ITI participated in today’s formal event at the State Department to announce Ambassador Walkley’s appointment, and we offered our support as he takes on this challenging and critical role.  We are confident that the Ambassador’s appointment will help advance human rights, transparency and economic development in the DRC region."
