SAP on TechSoup

Last week, representatives from more than 50 nonprofit organizations attended a presentation by SAP about some of the software solutions that we make available through TechSoup’s technology donation program.

It was a powerful event to take part in: assembled in the room in Washington, DC, were dozens of people who spend their lives making a difference in this world. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to show them the software solutions that they can use to make their groups run more efficiently, to save them time, to analyze data to ensure their organization’s success, and to better engage with donors and program participants.

It served as a reminder, as well, that successful use of technology and data analytics is not just for large customers.

At SAP, we consider it a privilege to engage in philanthropic programs like technology donation.

ITI President and CEO Dean Garfield said it best: “With global leadership comes responsibility to work hard to make the world a better place, whether it is in climate change or transportation or education.”

We believe that technology donation to nonprofits around the world helps us to do that. After all, attending last week were Washington, DC-based Academy of Hope, an adult education program; City Year, a one-year service program dedicated to keeping urban students in school; and On Ramps to Careers, which pairs technology companies with high schools to improve technology education, preparing students for future careers. These are, without a doubt, noble missions that merit our support.

By making software solutions available through technology donation in 30 countries, SAP distributed more than 1,500 product licenses in 2012, with a retail value of more than $800,000. We’re on track to repeat that level of commitment in 2013, with more than 700 licenses distributed year-to-date. And, we hope that last week’s event will help to boost those numbers.

Now, we’re looking at ways to expand this program, like making SAP cloud solutions available to nonprofits.

As technology continues to evolve, playing an ever-larger role in our day-to-day lives, companies like SAP have a responsibility to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from the advances that we make. We urge our counterparts in the technology sector, especially our fellow ITI members, to join us in this effort.
