WASHINGTON – Today technology industry trade group ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement from Vice President of Government Affairs Vince Jesaitis on the Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2017 introduced today by Sens. Cory Gardner (R-Col.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.):

“We appreciate the outreach and work by Sens. Gardner and Warner on the critical importance of the security of IoT devices, particularly those sold to the federal government,” Jesaitis said. “Tech companies are constantly investing and innovating in cybersecurity to stay ahead of cybercriminals and as IoT technologies expand, their security will rely on policies that are dynamic, industry driven, and built on public-private partnerships that promote voluntary, technology-neutral security practices based on risk management. We look forward to working with Sens. Gardner and Warner to refine the bill as it moves through the legislative process to develop IoT security policies that are adaptable to rapidly emerging threats, technologies, and business models.”

ITI has been a staunch and early advocate for strong and effective cybersecurity policies, and developing a national IoT strategy for the growing emergence and widespread beneficial use of IoT technologies.
