WASHINGTON – Today ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement from its President and CEO Dean Garfield regarding developments on the European Commission’s efforts to enact a digital services tax.
“The twist and turns in the European Union’s efforts to enact a digital services tax are head spinning and no way to deal with such an important and far-reaching issue. We are grateful that rational voices in the Council seem poised to prevail. Rather than rush into an equally concerning approach — a tax focused on ‘digital advertising’ — we recommend the European Council oppose such a discriminatory measure and instead invest the EU’s energies toward creating a multilateral solution through the OECD. Governments around the world have a great opportunity to craft a tax system designed for the 21st century, and we look forward to working with them on this important issue.”
