WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council, the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement by Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Andy Halataei following a markup by the Senate Finance Committee considering key reforms to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS):

“The legislative package passed today by the Senate Finance Committee includes important changes to IRS examination practices that have come under scrutiny,” Halataei said. “Specifically, the legislation includes reforms that will better protect taxpayers’ rights against the controversial use of outside legal counsel by the IRS. We thank Chairman Hatch and Senator Portman for their work to incorporate these provisions and encourage lawmakers to pass them into law.”

ITI is a member of the Coalition for Effective & Efficient Tax Administration (CEETA) and identified advocating for needed IRS reforms as part of the groups 2016 legislative priorities earlier this year.
