WASHINGTON – ITI President and CEO Dean Garfield released the following statement on Mexico and the United States making inroads to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

“There is no question that for over 20 years NAFTA has created millions of jobs and economic prosperity across the United States. We hope that today’s bilateral deal can build upon the prior economic success of this historic agreement in a way that incorporates the new realities of the digital world by letting data flow freely, avoiding a sunset clause, and balancing IP protections. We appreciate the U.S. and Mexican negotiating teams taking the time to work through difficult discussions and we are hopeful for a final, trilateral North American agreement that will create a foundation for economic prosperity for years to come.”
